Is college over-rated?

College is a bit over-rated. Why?

Because, it really does not matter what you get out of it when you go out in the real-world. The real-world expects you to have ... guess what? 'Real-World' experiences. However, with that said, college does offer some great opportunities to do research, stuff that you are interested in. You can do research on like 'how long would it take for milk to get sour and still be good to drink' or if you are like me, 'Real-time color recognition with the use of just a webcam' (a little plug in regards to myself). And, guess what? It is all funded by the school, which most of it you can use to buy Pizza, for those long nights of 'researching.'

In short and to summarize, college is only over-rated if you go through the motions of going to college. Anyone can pick up a book and read (provided that they know how to read, then again if you are in college most likely this has happened in your life). But, if you go to college and actually use the time to research and study the non-standard textbook courses, you will get the most out of college and actually learn something beneficial that can be used in the real-world.

On a side note, if you rather limit yourself to just taking the regular classes, then make sure at the very least, do an internship somewhere. You may just be buying coffee and doing donut runs, but your future employer doesn't need to know that, just say you were the Office Assistant and you were responsible for their day to day tasks, also include the fact that you managed their agendas, which could lead to a project manager-ish position.

That is some good advice. Too bad I'm not in college anymore.
