"You Tube" Debacle

Why is it I feel like I’m at a circus when I watch the Presidential Debates? Yesterday’s CNN You Tube debate was no exception. Thank you CNN. Shifting from sardonic boos to hysteric laughter in a matter of seconds, the crowd was like a wild mob—jeers mingled with cheers in a sort of cacophony of confused emotion. At one point an audience member (the gay general) even tried to steal the show. Allegations of planted questions have been made, but the entire time I felt myself getting annoyed with CNN’s camera angles. Ron Paul as usual provided the comic relief, abruptly flailing his arms and pointing fingers at phantoms. I have to admit, though, he had his moments of sanity. He even shone in an area of personal expertise: being an ob-gyn he spoke with real Hippocratic wisdom on abortion. I liked that. Then there’s McCain who had his trademark neuro-linguistical fits, and Tancredo who spoke to the sound of his own echo. The list goes on. Lot’s been said already about the outcome. Frankly, Romney had some disappointing moments—he’s rough on certain social issues. Huckabee really shone but may have come off as too minister-ish. Guiliani was a crowd pleaser who used emotion rather than logic to garner applause. After yesterday I’m more inclined then ever to assert a four way horse race.
November 30th, 2007 at 03:19 PM Comic relief aside the debate proved to me once again that the sincere attempts to garner public favor when CNN is involved is simply nothing more then a rating ploy. CNN has no love for democracy, nor does it have a sincere interest in promoting the cause of fair elections based on the issues, they simply want to up their watchers and did so at the expense of the Republican candidates. It didn't matter how good they were or how presidential some looked (Not one in my mind)the purpose of this debate was for nothing, except the overall place in the rating game. Shame on you CNN.
